From May 19th to June 12th, St Michael & All Angels Church is celebrating the first Chelsea Fringe, to coincide with the Chelsea Flower Show, in several ways:
St Michaels' first project for the Festival was the Edible Jubilee Borders. The double borders leading up to the church porch have been replanted with early season varieties of vegetables, plus some flowering companion plants. They also incorporate a red, white and blue jubilee theme.
The volunteer gardeners and local schools have also designed, prepared and created a Pop-Up Bible Garden - a temporary, themed garden near the Parish Hall that takes the form of raised beds (below), planted and labelled with shrubs, flowers, fruit and vegetables that are referred to in the Bible. The Pop-up Bible Garden was officially opened and blessed by the vicar, Father Kevin Morris, on Sunday 20th May (above). You can see David Beresford's pictures of the Bible Garden here:

Over 50 of Chiswick’s shops have joined together under the leadership of Abundance London to create a river of fruit trees, culminating in the Edible Jubilee Borders at the front of St Michael & All Angels Church. Restaurants, dry cleaners, chiropracters, bars, fashion outlets and banks are all sponsors of a new orchard along the High Road and other main shopping streets. After the Fringe the trees will be replanted in the surrounding streets, schools and parks. More information at Chelsea Fringe
Thank you to Bud Murryweather and the team of Church gardeners at St Michael & All Angels, who have put a huge amount of work and inspiration into the project.
